Most phones now have fingerprint or facial recognition features so that access can only be made by you 

 

Always create a unique pin code that only you know to lock your handset 

 

Each handset has a totally unique IMEI number. This can be found by typing *#06# into your handset and press send where you will be sent the IMEI. This number can be given to Police if the handset is stolen and also to your phone provider where they can automatically stop your phone working. 

 

Contact your network provider to report it lost or stolen and the police if stolen as soon as you can, but do check all your pockets, the car and the back of the sofa before you do so!. The network operator will be able to block the phone and render it useless, even if a new sim card is used.
