Man charged with burglary in Basingstoke


A man has been charged with burglary following an incident in Basingstoke yesterday.

We were called at 4.45am on Monday 2 June to a report of suspicious activity outside an address on Old Kempshott Lane. It was reported that someone was trying to gain access to the property.

Officers attended the scene and located a man inside the address. A bag, which contained a number of tools including screwdrivers, was also found. All items were seized and a man was arrested at the scene.

John Shrubshall, 46, of Moriston Close, Reading, has since been charged with burglary dwelling – with intent to steal and going equipped for theft.

He was also charged with burglary dwelling and theft and driving a motor vehicle which had been taken without the owner’s consent.

These charges relate to reports that a man had stolen jewellery from a property on Waltham Road, Overton, on Tuesday 11 March.

It was also reported that a silver Audi had been stolen near Basingstoke train station at some time between Saturday 8 March and Sunday 9 March.

Shrubshall is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court today (3 June).
