Trespassers Removed from Former Blockbuster Site on Portswood Road

We are aware that in recent weeks, a group of individuals experiencing homelessness had moved onto the forecourt of the former Blockbuster site at 133 Portswood Road. This occupation led to numerous concerns from local residents and businesses, particularly due to antisocial behaviour.

Today, in response to these complaints, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, Southampton City Council’s Stronger Communities Team, and the property’s managers took coordinated action to remove the group from the site. The property is now being cleared to address the immediate concerns and ensure the area is safe and tidy.

Officers from Portswood's Neighbourhood Policing Team have also been patrolling the area to provide a visible presence, act as a deterrent to further issues, and offer reassurance to community members. These patrols will continue on the high street and surrounding areas, and we encourage anyone with concerns to speak to our officers directly.

We appreciate the patience of the local community during this process. We understand the wider challenges of homelessness and are committed to supporting longer-term solutions for those affected, working alongside partner agencies and charities.

Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and understanding as we work together to maintain a safe and welcoming community.
