Witnesses and information sought as part of investigation into assault in Fratton

Officers investigating an assault in Fratton are asking for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

We received a report that between 9:00pm and 11:00pm on Sunday 22 March, a woman in her 30s was punched in the face by a man near the pedestrian crossing outside of The Gym Group on Rodney Road.

The man then also punched a man who had reportedly been filming the incident, on the opposite side of the road. 

He was reported to have entered the road on both foot and bicycle, causing several vehicles, including a white convertible Audi, a silver Vauxhall Corsa and a Tesco delivery van to stop or swerve to avoid him. 

An investigation has been launched and as part of their enquiries, officers have arrested a 28-year-old man from Portsmouth on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault. He remains in police custody at this time.
